Monday, February 21, 2005 (Lucknow):

The Parliamentary Affairs Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Azam Khan, today slammed the creation of the new Muslim personal law board.

He blamed the board for the Shia-Sunni clashes that led to the killing of three people in Lucknow on Sunday.

The minister has ordered an investigation into the incident. He however, did not specify as to, which agency will conduct the probe.

“We will take action against people who are responsible for this and this was not an accident. This was a planned attack. This was not a Shia-Sunni riot,” Khan said.

Curfew in place

Meanwhile, curfew is still in place in the Thakurganj area of Lucknow after Sunday’s riot.

Six people were injured and some shops were damaged in the old city area of Lucknow.

The Sham-e-Gariba or the assembly to observe the martyrdom of Imam Hussain was cancelled following the clashes.
